Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are preschoolers. They are natives from Central America who have escaped from communities ravaged by gangs. Some speak dialects such as Quiche, Mam, and Q'anjob'al, and Spanish, of course. Some left behind parents and relatives, and arrived to this country with the hope of a better future. Through the dangerous journey, they faced many challenges.

Once here, they face many challenges such as a new culture, language and economical barriers, but despite all of those circumstances, they always demonstrate a positive enthusiasm worth emulating.

Also, 99% of them come into our preschool program with the need of financial assistance.

They are so eager to learn! What a great honor it is for me to have the opportunity to be their teacher. As an immigrant myself, I believe no one can understand their needs more than I do.

My Project

Technology in the 21st Century is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. This computer will be used to help my students to enrich my STEAM based curriculum as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) with hands-on projects. They will learn how to use the keyboard, mouse, and the basic keys such as up, down, left and right, and the return and delete keys.

With this computer, my students will be able to create hands-on STEM based projects and will prepare them for the near future.

They will also be able to connect with other communities around the world through different virtual portals such as Schoology to share learning experiences.
