I am in love with the curiosity and excitement that my 3rd grade students bring to school each day. My school is located in Washington state. We have about 500 students. Our population is made up of about 20% Hispanic learners and 20% American Indian/ Alaskan Native. Many of my students belong to the Lummi Nation tribe.
They are wonderfully diverse learners that come from a variety of different economic and social backgrounds, with 63% receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
Though I have never had stools of my own, I have seen firsthand how wobble stools can help students concentrate. Last year I was able to borrow a few stools from another teacher in my building and I saw a dramatic difference in my student's ability to focus and be productive. I have made 2 other requests for wobble stools on this site, but unfortunately neither of the projects were funded. I am hoping that the third time's the charm! These stools are quite pricey, but I know my kids deserve them.
Research has proven that when students feel comfortable while working, their academics, behavior, and attention improve.
Third graders are special because though they are growing more independent and are able to do more things, they are still young. My students are full of energy, and it is my job to provide them with an appropriate outlet for their energy. I believe that wobble stools make school more accessible and developmentally appropriate for the 8-year-old learner.
