Mr. J. from McDonough GA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a 3D printer to not only explore their passions and creativity but to also make science tangible. The cubelets bring coding to life leading to the next generation of computer scientists.

"We need more hands-on projects!", "Can we have a time where we can have fun and be creative?!" These are just a couple of the many statements my students make on a daily basis.
I serve a diverse population, to say the least.
Students at my school come from all over the county, for different reasons, bringing different perspectives, educational backgrounds, cultural awarenesses, and social-economic challenges.
As a first-year teacher, I have learned that my role is much greater than just being the adult in the room. On more than one occasion, I've been an open and unbiased ear, an older sibling, a mentor, a mediator, a counselor, and the list goes on and on. I've gone home with my students' issues and have come back with their solutions. I have funded multiple projects and activities to ensure quality and engaging instruction and I need your help!
I teach in the district that I grew up in. With that being said, I teach out of the same texts books that I grew up with. With new standards, new discoveries, new technologies, and a push towards personalized learning, I think it is important that you update today's classroom.
Today's classroom cost way too much!
As a first-year teacher of at-risk hands-on learners, I find that it is important that I make learning fun, relevant, and tangible. The overall goal of this project is to introduce new technologies to the classroom that will have a long-term impact on my students. During orientation at my school, all students are required to take a True Colors Test. Studies show that the majority of our students associate with orange and blue personality traits meaning that they are impulsive, creative, and emotionally driven. If they don't literally "see" the importance or understand the value in their education, they tend to shut down.
This is the first phase to renovate my classroom into one of the 21st Century that captivates and encourages the creativity of the 21st Century Learner. With so many advancements and opportunities in technology, our classrooms need to reflect the world beyond the walls of the school building. Computer technology skills such as coding and app development will be enhanced with the introduction of an iPad and the Cubelet Robot set. With the investment of the Afinia H400 3D printer, I intend to provide opportunities that most of my students would not have had otherwise. I want to inspire them to create something out of nothing. I want to be able to provide them with beautiful models that make learning interesting and not a distant phenomenon. I want them to want to learn!
