Physical education class is no longer your parents' gym class. Times have changed and so has our approach to teaching students the skills necessary to become healthy, happy, active adults. I teach approximately 800 amazing, diverse students throughout the week in elementary physical education class. I teach 28 general education PE classes and four adapted physical education classes each week. My students love to learn through movement!
Physical education class allows my students the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and physically.
Although my students may only have PE class once a week for forty minutes, we make every minute count.
My Project
We are requesting simple STEM activities that we can accomplish during physical education class. During PE class, I teach the importance of the systems of the body along with how proper nutrition and exercise affect its functioning. I will be helping students see first hand how digestion works with a simple STEM activity.
With these activities students will determine how food is mashed, where it travels in the body, the job of the stomach, and understand that everybody poops.
The crackers will be broken down by the stomach acid (soda) in a ziploc bag. The hose represents the length of the small and large intestines giving students a true to life understanding of their digestive system!
