This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredible. I work in a diverse and low socioeconomic area. I hear strangers often attempt to disparage my students as “bad” kids, but I have never met a more respectful group of kids in my life. They face challenges that most adults would never dream of facing, and yet they show up everyday ready to take on the world.

The pandemic hit them hard.

So many of my students tuned out and disconnected. Reading can seem like an individual activity, but a truly engaging book will get my students talking with each other and grappling with real-world problems from a safe, supportive environment.

My students deserve engaging material that will promote diversity, representation, and equity. I want to give them the opportunity to read about diverse perspectives. All they lack are the right resources and you can give them that.
