Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 5th grade in a low income Title 1 school. This is my 1st year here, after teaching 8th grade Art for several years. It makes me so sad that many of my students cannot read and they have made it to 5th grade. I have found that the more they are read to the better they get. So I read a great deal to my class. But so many of them have no one to read to them when they get home from school, sometimes during the day they have free time to read, but can only look at the pictures. I wanted to get some books on tape. I already have the recorder and headphones, but there are no books with tapes. I would like them to be able to use them in class and check them out to take home for the night.
My kids would be so thrilled to be able to read the same books as some of their classmates.
Thanks so much for considering us. I think everyone deserves the chance to learn how to read.
The books and tapes will also be something I can use year after year with new students.
