Our school is a Comprehensive Services Site (CSS). This means we teach many students with emotional disabilities. Students are sent to us throughout the year when they have not been successful at their base school. They come to us so they can learn in an environment that best supports them and their learning styles. Including our CSS students, we have over 850 students in grades K-6. The rest of our population includes kids with other types of disabilities as well as typically developing students. We also happen to have a high population of military families. Many of these kids have moved 3-4 times already and will likely move 3-4 more times before they graduate. Our kids are used to high quality and engaging PE. But COVID has really disconnected us from the kids. Every child deserves to have quality physical education experience and that means providing the tools each student needs to be successful.
Our students have not been live with us (their PE teachers since MARCH!) Our district did not allow us to host any live special classes. Thankfully we worked with the classroom teachers and were able to go into their live classes to give the kids a bit of a movement break. Now that we are starting school 100% online we, PE teachers are being asked to teach 30 minute live classes with about 30 kids. If you have ever participated in any ZOOM meetings at all you know that you are very limited in your movement by the webcam on your computer. With the OWL camera, I could more easily engage students because they could see me move, jump, or model a skill. They could follow me and hear me better. NO KIDS will be recorded. This will simply make it so the kids can hear and see the movement and sound that I am producing. The owl follows the movement. This would really help engage some of the harder to reach kids.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
