Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Whole, happy, healthy, intelligent children are what I am striving for in my classroom. My students this year are a lovable bunch. They like dancing, looking after class pets, working in the garden, jumping rope, singing, working together, and having fun...all while learning.
We are a 95% economically disadvantaged school, and I have several GT students, so I would love some academic supplies to help with supporting, differentiating, and challenging students in all subjects, no matter their abilities.
Not only do I want my kids to learn the core subjects well and retain their Spanish, I want them to be healthy and happy. Some of the supplies I am asking for are to help students make friends and exercise.
I would also like to have books and resources to talk about themes such as acceptance, perseverance, and reaching goals. Besides our SEL activities, as a class, we have also used working the school garden as a way to build a sense of community in our class.
My Project
The academic resources I am requesting will help some students to do research projects and will give students engaging options to extend their learning. Many of the resources are games that will help spur the kids on to love learning, whether it's science, reading, or math.
The sports and garden equipment will help my students to connect with each other, get out in nature, and exercise daily.
The SEL tools will help me as a teacher to help guide my students' in learning mindfulness and improving their social-emotional intelligence. These will be used on a daily basis to help build a better sense of community in our classroom.
