Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching at an alternative-style school, I have students with a variety of needs. Many of my students were unsuccessful in the traditional model because of the need to miss school to help support family, because of social-emotional or health issues, and/or because the large-model system let them fly "under the radar" when they needed the most assistance.
Within this school, every student has amazing potential that is waiting to be tapped by the right teachers, programs, and environments.
My classroom is the perfect place for that to start. I hope to provide opportunities and an environment beyond expectations to help my students succeed.
My Project
It is hard for children to learn on empty stomachs, yet we restrict their access to food during school. I can provide in-class snacks to keep students focused.
Additionally, I will be able to offer wobble cushions to students as a flexible seating option.
This can help to increase the seat time of those students who struggle to stay still. For students who need extra support to focus on reading, I will be able to offer reading rulers to keep them on track, while noise canceling headphones offer the opportunity to cancel out noisy classrooms during independent work time.
