Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an extremely diverse group with varying special needs and academic as well as social-emotional challenges. Many of my students are the first generation of their family to attend school in the United States. The majority of my students come from homes in which both parents work outside the home and many are often working multiple jobs.
These families value hard work and education and do their best to support as much as they can.
My students come from upper Manhattan and the surrounding areas.
My Project
Half way there and more than halfway out of supplies! This past week marked our hundredth day of school, meaning we are more than halfway through the school year! Just as time has been flying by so have our supplies!
While most students started the school year off prepared, currently very few have notebook space or folders that are not falling apart.
Students are currently writing important notes on scrap paper and then are not able to find their notes. My students need new notebooks and folders in order to maintain organization that was established in September. They also need glue, markers, and pencils. Many are losing instructional time as they wait for someone else to pass them a pencil or glue that is down to its last bits! On top of that the rough flu season has wiped away our tissue supplies!
My students deserve to be equipped to end the year strong. Most families only budget for school supplies in September and are not prepared to replenish them midyear. These supplies are the bare minimum required for successful learning.
