Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students brighten my day from the moment they walk into our classroom until the second they leave. As my students enter the classroom each morning, I am greeted with smiles, stories, questions, and my very favorite "Mrs. W, how are you doing over there?" My students have a wide range of disorders that affect the way that they process, understand and communicate information. My classroom consists of students that are in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade.
My students all have different abilities that require different methods of instruction and materials to help them learn to the best of their ability.
My students come to school each day knowing that more than their educational needs will be met. Our school provides each student with free breakfast, a healthy snack at recess and free lunch. Our school also has social and emotional supports for our students if they are needed.
My Project
Having a classroom set of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a copy of the book on CD will allow my students opportunities to access the literature at their level. My students will have choices how they access the story and complete our novel study. Each day I will read a chapter of the book aloud to my students. The following day my students will be able to choose how they reread the chapter for the second time.
My students can use their copy of the book to read alone, with a partner, in a small group, or listen to the story at our listening.
After each chapter my students will work on completing an activity from our novel study unit. When we have completed our unit we will watch the movie as a class. The final part of our project will be to compare the book to the movie and to talk about the similarities and the differences.
