My students need books like "Who Was Abraham Lincoln" to go along with our biography genre study. The Who Was series is a great way to introduce students to biographies.
My students INSPIRE me on a daily basis. They are the reason I stay. It's been a difficult transition from GA to OK when it comes to teacher pay and state funding, but I can't seem to break away from this profession, and it's because of them. Because of them, I stay inspired. Because of them, I continue to teach my heart out. Because of them, because of them, because of them....I love what I do, and as long as I'm their teacher they will thrive emotionally, academically, and socially.
My Project
The Who Was/Is books such as "Who Was Abraham Lincoln" are great resources for introducing biographies to students. I intend on using these particular books in literature circles. Literature circles inspire students to share personal thoughts and opinions during different genre studies. This particular series makes typical biographies interesting. They are easy to read and include graphics, charts, and other kid-friendly information while providing a reliable resource for research. Our biography unit ends with a living wax museum project, and I hope these books inspire students when researching their person. In addition to literature circles, these books will increase the number of biography books in our classroom library.
