My Students
I live and teach in a rural area where the demographics vary greatly for each student in my county. We have students who have access to more than they need, students who don't have access to anything, and students who have just what they need.
Learning to teach and learn remotely has been a difficult transition for me and my students. We aren't all online so each student's experience with remote learning is different. I have tried to reach all 84 of my students in one way or another whether it was passing out meals, reaching out by phone and email, or a handwritten letter.
Making learning and reading fun is of utmost importance to me right now. I want to keep my students actively engaged and continuing to learn. It is hard for me to not be with my student to keep them on task and motivated.
My Project
The students will be able to learn about the life of famous individuals whom they respect and admire. They will be able to stay engaged in a text that is interesting to them. They will also be able to read the text on their own because the text isn't too hard for a fifth-grader. Students will also have the ability, if they choose, to dress up like the person they read about and give a speech to their class either via Zoom or they can send a picture for us to see!
