My 4th Grade Students on the South Side of Chicago need a little push when it comes to reading. Many of them think reading isn't "cool" or just don't find it interesting. With the help of this proposal, I intend to make my classroom library a place where my students want to read. They should see reading as fun and educational and not as a classroom chore.
I don't have many books and most of the books I do have are fiction. In order to raise test scores, children need to read non-fiction text so that they learn a different style of comprehension. I would like to fill my library with books about animals, cultures, science and a set of "Weekly Readers" where my students can learn about current events.
In order to create life-long learners we have to start by interesting kids in literature. Please help to fund my classroom with non-fiction books where 90 students will benefit from the resources.
