My students need their own copy of the Henry Winkler classic "Niagara Falls, Or Does it?" After all, who said reading can't be fun for boys and girls?

My Students

My students are eager and full of life. They are naturally curious and have millions of questions about life. They step into the classroom each day eager to learn and help others around them. They have big dreams for the future and the drive to achieve them.

Our school is situated in the beautiful, lush hills of eastern Kentucky.

We live in a high poverty area that has been hit hard by the recent loss of jobs in the coal mining industry. The majority of these students qualify for free lunch due to their socioeconomic backgrounds.

My Project

By the time my students enter 4th grade they begin to grow tired of reading the same type of books over and over. Even though this school year is just starting, I've already discovered this class loves comedies. They love to tell and listen to jokes. The perfect book to motivate them would be one of Henry Winkler's books about Hank Zipzer. "Niagra Falls or Does It" is a funny book that would peek interest in reading for my class.

My students desperately need to discover reading can be fun so they will develop a love of reading and become lifelong readers.

Comedies are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. My students will love getting their hands on comic books.
