Do you remember what it was like to sit on a hard floor in school? My students who will be looping with me this year have not had a carpet to sit on. These students will be in my classroom again next year and I want them to have a comfy place to sit on besides the floor.
My school is located in a low income area where over 51% of the students receive free or reduced lunches.
Many of my students were affected by the tornado that hit Moore on May 20th. Despite these difficulties we are excited that we are looping together from 1st grade to 2nd grade. This gives us an opportunity to provide the closure that we did not have at the end of the year due to the storm.
My Project
We need a place to come together as a community. My students love to gather on the floor to read. My students are excited about reading and love to learn new things each day. I want them to have a place to come to feel successful. We would have a common place to meet together each day. We would hold our morning meeting, read aloud, partner read, and other engaging activities on our new carpet. We also need a couple of beanbags for students to enjoy during silent reading time. Our library is growing and we need a place to put all of these wonderful books. That is why my students are in need of a book stand.
My second grade students would love this new carpet and would enjoy using it every day.
They are eager to learn. They take pride in their classroom and I know they would love a new carpet to sit on, bean bags to read on, and a book stand to keep their books. Please help make our classroom a place where students love learning!
