My students are gifted learners from all walks of life in Jacksonville, FL. Each day I have a different grade level of students who leave their regular classroom and come to me for enrichment. Since I have k-5 students, I typically see around 100 children a week.
I am helping to shape the innovators of tomorrow, and learning coding skills will be a huge part of their lives.
My students have been introduced to computer coding through the "Hour of Code" program, and now are ready for the next step.
My Project
On a recent field trip to a local university our students were introduced to "Lego Education We Do 2.0 coding kits". They worked in pairs to create and then code "battle bots". Then they had a ball cheering for their new creations in the battle arena. The student engagement level was 100%!
With Lego Education's We Do coding kits, the possibilities of what my students can create are endless!
We all know that today's students will need an advanced understanding of technology to do the jobs of tomorrow. Introducing them to coding at an early age will help them become leaders in the technology-filled world they will live in.
In addition to teaching coding skills, lessons taught using these kits will reinforce science topics and inspire students to think both critically and creatively. Working with a partner or small group, our little engineers will practice using the "engineering process" as they imagine, plan, create, test, and improve their new inventions.
