Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am moving to a new grade, Kindergarten, this year. As a Title I school, we are in a high poverty area. We are challenged with lack of necessary equipment and resources in the classroom. I have upper grade supplies and have been gathering and shopping for my new little students who will arrive shortly.
We could really use a reading rug to set the tone in the classroom.
I have spent two weeks painting and organizing the classroom. The room is crying for a reading rug. I have spent so much money already on the classroom, and the rug is just too high of a ticket item for me. The rug would provide boundaries and comfort for these children. I can only picture them all sitting on the hard floor pushing, squishing, and arguing with each other for space. I do not want to put tape down to define their personal space when school starts shortly.
My Project
I am hoping for a large, high-quality reading rug that can stand up to the rigors of Kindergarten. Carpet time is a special time where we come together and change up our day, create community, transition, and learn. We have a calming Ocean theme now, and this particular carpet goes with the room and allows all students a place where they belong. It would enable them to sit and keep hands to self, define where to go at “carpet time”, and allow them to follow directions and transitions better.
Children always seem to love to “go the carpet”, which is usually defined by a rug, not the floor.
I would love to define a special place for all students! We have a high Kindergarten population who needs your help to sit on something better than the hard flooring in the classroom.
