Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Established in 1968, our middle school is nestled in the scenic community of Laguna Beach in Orange County, California. Our school provides 21st century learning experiences and classroom innovation, for all students to be lifelong learners. Students learn through interdisciplinary lessons and activities that provide students with "real world" connections and a stronger relevance of information acquired from their total educational experience. Our students represent a diverse socio-economic background that allows all students to go "above and beyond" in innovation for college and career experiences.
My Project
Students will be able to simulate crime scenes with the creation of a crime scene forensic lab. The outside shed that will simulate an actual forensic crime lab to analyze evidence and investigate crime scene scenarios.
The forensic lab will be used to identifying evidence from the mock crime scene "Murder at Sea" at The Ocean Institute.
The crime scene will occur on the "Pilgrim" ship in Dana Point. Students will work with the Dana Point Harbor Patrol to retrieve underwater bodies and analyze the evidence collected at the lab. Students will be able to use the lab for fingerprinting, trace and impressions analysis as well as a blood spatter chamber. The lab will be placed in a wooded area of the school to simulate a cabin in the woods. The iPad will be used to Facetime Forensic Archeologists at Baylor University in Texas and Dundee University in Scotland as well as talk to forensic students at a middle school in Santa Ana, CA. It will also be used to take photographs, simulate crime scene areas, collect information on a Google Drive, contain apps for the 360 camera and GoPro. The iPad will also be used as a computer to relate information back from the crime scene to the forensic lab at the school.
The individual materials requested are all products used in a crime scene and to set up a realistic forensic lab. The lab will be utilized for multiple crime scenes scenarios as well as a forensic crime lab. Students will be able to use critical and analytical thinking skills, as well as being able to use crime scene knowledge, learned in class, to solve forensic crime scenes. This project will be implemented within my forensic and after school classes.
