Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year has afforded me the pleasure of meeting some of the best students I have known in my twenty years of teaching. My colleagues tease me saying that I repeat the same thing year after year. This may be true and the reason may be that I look forward to seeing so many different smiles every day.
Organization is a layer in the foundation of a solid education.
The students in my freshman and sophomore classes are all different in so many ways and that is what makes them amazing. Different backgrounds, different views, different wants, needs, goals, and aspirations. The vast array of all these differences is what makes teaching not only challenging but also rewarding.
Throughout the mix I have found one commonality and that is a lack of organizational skills. My students can't be successful academically if they can't even find their pencil or review sheet or whatever tool it is they need at the time. Organization 101 teaches us to keep our things together. I am looking to help improve the organizational skills of my students by acquiring an electric 3 hole punch to keep various subject matter papers together and secured in their binders.
My Project
A good education cannot always be fulfilled within the halls of a school building or the walls of a classroom. There are times students need to carry assignments or papers with them to other classes or home to finish for homework, or to study for a test the following day at school. With all this traveling, mishaps are bound to occur. The lost paper, the missing assignment, the bent and crumpled up homework that was retrieved from the bottom of the bookbag, after 15 minutes of relentless searching.
I say, "Teach them to organize." Why put ourselves and our students through any unnecessary anxiety.
Organization is the key to success and a 3 hole punch is a tool that will get you organized.
