I teach in an elementary school with combined classrooms. Due to low numbers, I have students in both 1st and 2nd grade. As a whole, the students in our school are excited to come to school every day, and that makes my job as their teacher just as rewarding as it is fun.
Even though we are a small school, we try our best to provide our students the best education possible.
It is my goal to see that each and every student that enters my classroom leaves at the end of the year having learned all they can.
My Project
I have always felt my students would benefit from flexible seating. Not only does it give them more freedom to choose a seat that works best for them, but it also gets them out of their desks. I know I don't like sitting in one place all day, so I can't expect the students in my class to like it either.
With a variety of seating options, students have a greater chance of finding one that fits their learning style.
In order to get flexible seating in my classroom, I have chosen three different options that I think my students will really love. Wobble stools will be good for those students who always seem to have to wiggle. The wobble pads will serve a similar purpose, but they can be used on the floor. The third option is padded chairs that can sit on the floor.
It is my hope to move away from the row seating of traditional classrooms entirely, and these three options will be a good start to that goal.
