The boys in my reading classes hate to read. They need books that capture their interest. What could be better than books about the famous names they hear about every day?
My students are all struggling readers in 9th and 10th grade.
Our school is very college prep oriented and many of the students have given up on their desires to be better students by the time they get to me. They need materials that motivate them to read, and to practice their skills.
My Project
I would like biographies of famous males such as Vince Lombardi, Ben Mezrich, Tony Hawk, Joe Lewis, and many more that my students can read. They may struggle with reading, but they hear about famous people on the radio, TV and from their peers. It would be great to provide them with the resources they need to learn more about these people and practice the skills they so desperately need to improve.
It would mean so much to my students to have books that not only are age appropriate, but also contain current content that is relevant to their lives at the moment.
They would enjoy getting in their practice reading and be excited to share the information they learned.
