Who Am I? Sharing Our Diverse Lives With Each Other.
Help me give my students their very own 'Who Is (Your Name Here)?' journal and their own 'Who Was' activity book to create a story and timeline of their life, as well as learn about our diverse world.
I am the teacher of very energetic and remarkable 5th-grade students in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country. Our district has over 48,000 students, encompasses almost 2,000 square miles, and has more than 130 schools and programs. There are over 100 languages spoken by families in our school district.
Each morning my students walk through the door and are greeted with new opportunities to learn and to be successful.
My students are very creative and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals. Our classroom is full of eager learners and very hard workers with ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds. Each of my students come from his or her own unique situation and home life. Every single one of my students has strengths to share, as well as room to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We are a strong and loving classroom community that works together to ensure learning, growth, opportunities, and successes for each other.
My Project
We have a very diverse classroom community and I'd like to be able to provide my students with a fun and engaging way to create and share an autobiography.
Writing and sharing an autobiography will be another way to celebrate the beautiful diversity in our classroom, as well as give my students the opportunity to gain a better perspective of themselves and others.
These interactive journals will be a fun tool that my students can use to record their own life stories. They will record details from birth through the present time, and also their dreams for the future. Students will create their own family tree, list their friends, pets, favorite subjects, food, sports, hobbies and more. When completed, students will have a journal that they will use to write their autobiography.
The activity books I am requesting will give my students a fun and interactive way to explore the lives of other people. We have been the fortunate recipients of many of the 'Who Was...' book series books and my students absolutely love reading these books and learning about so many different people. Students will be able to use the activity books to gather details about many different people before deciding who to write their biography about. Looking into the lives of creators, innovators, legends, and trailblazers will provide my students with opportunities to identify with others and celebrate our diverse world.
With the help of DonorsChoose.org and our many public education supporters, it is possible that I will be able to provide each of my students with their own 'Who Was...' activity book and their own 'Who Is...' journal to record their life details. These kids deserve the best!
