I teach kindergarten students who are very enthusiastic and inquisitive learners. Their backgrounds are varied, from affluent to poverty level. Some are ESOL students, and some have special needs. Our school is large, with over 900 students in Pre-K through 5th grade. Our diverse population makes us special.
Our curriculum focuses on student inquiry-based learning with a global perspective with the essential hands-on learning.
They love to play in centers to learn financial literacy through a grocery store, create in an art center, build in a block and game center, listen to stories on a computer, read books in the reading center, and explore in the science center. They learn through play and by doing. Much of our daily instruction is in small groups using many different hands-on materials. Art and creativity play an important part in our classroom. We use lots of technology while creating stories and art. Almost all of our lessons are based on children's literature. We use a large variety of art and craft materials on a daily basis. We try to use only a limited amount of paper.
My Project
Our individual whiteboards that we use now are in terrible shape. They will not fully erase and they are scratched, cracked and chipped. I don't have enough for everyone. There is one board that is stained blue and the kids argue over who has to use that one.
Whiteboards and markers are essential for our kindergarten literacy and math program and students love using them.
These boards have a lined side for handwriting and a blank side for other activities includingl drawing to solve a problem. They are also magnetic so we can use letter tiles, number tiles and other magnets. The students will be so thrilled to have new clean boards. The markers with an eraser tip will be a perfect addition so that each child can write and erase easily. We will use these boards every day.
