Our students are some of the hardest working kids we've ever met! A large percentage of our student population are individuals with significant cognitive and/or physical disabilities. We also have a high number of students who are English Language Learners. It is our mission to prepare each of our students for success in high school and beyond and we believe that these independent life and vocational skills should begin in middle school.
Our students have to overcome more obstacles than most to achieve at the same rate as their general education peers, and will therefore need more preparation than most to become successful adults.
Some students face more obstacles before arriving to school than most of us face in a week. Whether they didn't have breakfast, didn't have a place to sleep, or missed the bus because they had to watch siblings, our students bring a variety of needs into school.
My Project
Our Life Skills and English Language Learner classrooms don't have whiteboards! We have been able to use parts of our school in creative ways to create spaces for our students to focus on life skills and their English language acquisition, however since these spaces were not built as classrooms they lack whiteboards.
Our special education teachers need this basic classroom equipment in order to provide instruction for our students with special needs.
Having a space to write directions for a project, post vocabulary words, and show visuals to support the curriculum will further our instruction for our high needs learners.
