Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a Kindergarten teacher most of my students have never been to or experienced what school is. Our school is a low income school with 100% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. This does not stop our students from coming to school eager to learn and experience new things.
We want to make their first experiences memorable, loving and engaging.
In order to do so we need a variety of hands on materials, engaging books, manipulatives, STEM activities and technology resources to foster and promote learning. My goal for every student in my classroom is to move to first grade with a love of learning.
My Project
My students need new whiteboards, markers and erasers in the classroom. In my classroom we use whiteboards on a daily basis. They are used in math for writing numbers, equations, drawing number bonds and solving story problems. We use them in reading and writing to write cvc words, sight words, responding to reading and small group learning activities.
New whiteboards are much needed in our classroom.
The whiteboards currently in the classroom are becoming unusable. They have been written on in permanent markers and pencils and they are cracking and breaking. Currently we use felt scraps to erase our whiteboards but it is becoming more and more difficult to erase the boards with them.
My students would be so grateful to have new whiteboards, erasers and markers. We would be able to use them even more frequently in the classroom to support our reading, writing and math curriculum.
