Whiteboards Erase Math Anxiety!

Help me give my students access to a low stress way to engage with math! Non permanent writing surfaces encourage students to engage in math in a way that paper and pencil just can’t!

My Students

Eighth grade math is full of challenges. Sometimes math feels so scary that students are hesitant even to try- for fear of being wrong. Yet- give a student a non-permanent writing surface (whiteboards) and suddenly even the most hesitant student is willing to do written math!

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences and situations, and they all deserve to get the most out of their math class!

Our school mission statement is "Friendship, Learning, and Commitment”. We work to understand our differing ways of coming to school, and how to support each other to be our personal bests! We all have value and strengths to bring to the group, and my students are growing up to be the thoughtful and intelligent thinkers we need for today's global community!

My Project

Students often feel anxious about doing math because of fear of getting it wrong. The cure for this is to provide non-permanent surfaces for students to do their work on!

My colleagues and I have noticed that a math- averse student is much more able and willing to engage in math if they know their work doesn’t have to be permanent.

With whiteboard tables in my classroom, every student will be able to explore numbers and algebraic patterns in a low stress manner. Research is clear about the negative impact of stress on learning, and all students deserve maximum learning opportunities! I want to provide the best learning for all of my students!
