Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a large elementary school of about 1000 students in north central California. 90%+ receive free lunch. My upcoming students will be an exceptional group of fifth graders.
My students come to school with very little, but they are willing to give everything they have to learn.
They always come to school excited about what they will see and learn. I want to give my students every opportunity to improve their academic learning ability.
I have moved back to fifth grade after spending a year in second. Kudos to those that can handle the primary grades. Anyways, I have learned a new appreciation of the primary grade teachers and am excited to take those insights back to the fifth grade along with my new perspective of the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
My students are a very active group of fifth graders that are awesome students. They worked hard to get to grade level and continue to be motivated to continue the learning process. They continue to amaze me every day with how much they want to learn.
My Project
For years when we started math, each student had to find their whiteboard in their desk. For some they are jammed in there, making it difficult to remove. For others, they have misplaced them or they have become a bit raggedy looking. With whiteboard tables this will solve these problems, they can't be lost or misplaced, they become their desks.
What better way to learn math than writing just like the teacher on a large spacious surface.
These tables will help many of my students in that they will give them an opportunity to show their group partners how they solved a math problem.
This could build teamwork and collaboration within the groups and when other groups are struggling with a concept, they can observe a large table area and have the concept explained using the whiteboard tables.
