Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very special group of students. They are all talented and excited when it comes to learning new things. I want each of them to have faith in themselves and see themselves as I do. Each one is special and has so much to offer the world. Our school is a Title I school, with over 65% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

We also have a large ELL population and many migrant families.

The children from migrant families spend most of the year split between multiple schools causing a disruption in their education for which I must try to make up while they are with me. Although my students come with these obstacles in their path, they are able to enjoy learning and remind me of the joys as well.

My Project

We will use our new white board several times a day. My students need a class set of dry erase white-boards in order to receive immediate and precise feedback on the skills they are learning. If every student in our classroom had a personal dry-erase whiteboard, we'd be able to move closer to the ideal of 100 percent engagement every single day.

The white boards will function as an accountability tool, enhance engagement, and help foster community-building and teamwork.

Furthermore, as a teacher, I'd be able to check the "pulse" of the classroom at any time to determine both class and individual understanding. The boards will be used for everything from literacy strategies to vocabulary development to editing practice, math and science. The boards will help me be sure I am leaving no student behind and sends a clear message to my students that I am serious about personal accountability.
