This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an urban school district. I typically have 24-26 students. Some of the students are on IEPs and some are English Language Learners. My students try their best and want to achieve. My main goal is to give them the confidence to try. Boards will help because mistakes are easily erased. My school is in a high poverty area. Many students come to school without even a pencil. They love to play school and write on boards. This will help to make learning fun.
My Project
We are trying to move away from worksheets and spending the day sitting in desks. These boards will give my students the flexibility to move around the room and work in different groups. They will be able to erase their mistakes quickly and try again. I want my students to know mistakes are good because we learn from them. Hopefully, these boards will help them to learn that. Students will be able to share their answers so I can quickly see who needs more help. I can then pull students who need more to reteach the lessons, while others can work independently.
