My students need the stability balls and the bouncy bands to help them release energy and remain seated simultaneously. The fidgets they can keep with them to ease their anxiety and to help them maintain focus.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are some of the funniest middle schoolers in Indiana. We have a school population of 40 seventh and eighth grade boys and also have a co-ed setting which serves up to 120 high school students. Our students come from very diverse populations and backgrounds both culturally and economically. We are an alternative setting with a lot of flexibility available to meet the individual needs of our students.
My students are special to me because they are awesome!
They work hard to grow and develop academically, socially and emotionally. They are energetic and caring, friendly and outgoing people. Part of their growth involves working through anxiety and developing coping skills. The middle school students I work with are high energy boys that need a way to manage that energy and still be present in a classroom setting. I am requesting 10 small exercise peddlers and 10 exercise balls to help them be better able to manage class.
My Project
The stability balls and foot pedals will help my boys to release energy when they are in class. As seventh and eighth graders, they do not receive a recess and there is no gymnasium in our school. These materials will help the students to exercise and to maintain self-control because they will release that energy. The addition of those tools will increase the productivity in the learning environment in each of the classrooms. With the hand held fidgets, students will be able to check it out from the counseling office each morning and return before dismissal. This has worked well for us previously, but I need more gadgets to reach more students.
