My Students

I have a wonderful group of students at Albert Schweitzer Elementary. They are curious about the world around them and they show up ready to learn everyday.

They're the kind of students who keep teachers on their toes because they are so very eager to learn.

I'm not talking about students who get 100s on test - no that's a different thing. These students make mistakes and they embrace them. They laugh at them. Most importantly, they learn from them. It's amazing.

My Project

Did you know that when people are learning to read it helps to read out loud as well as be read to? Teachers don't just ask that students do this for fun - there's actual brain science behind it!

Whisper Phones are a fantastic tool for ALL people who are learning to read in a classroom.

The phones help students read out loud in a VERY crowded classroom without disturbing others. When students are able to discretely read out-loud they receive instant feedback (from themselves!) on the accuracy and fluency in their decoding (reading). Successful decoding enhances comprehension. I've never met a student who doesn't benefit from whisper phones.

I've known about whisper phones for years but I've only ever had a set of 5 phones. Not only did I have enough phones, students also got tired of holding them. They need headsets so that students' hands can be free to turn pages and explore the book. Their arms don't fall asleep from holding the phone for half an hour!

Please help me read EVERY child in my classroom with these whisper phones with headsets.
