This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love hands-on learning experiences, especially those they wouldn’t normally have an opportunity to participate in. The majority of my students come from low-income families where their experiences are limited so I strive to provide them in ways that are impacting and meaningful from which their knowledge base and skill set can continue to grow. My students are very curious and inquisitive! They enjoy coming to school to find out what they will learn next.
Their minds are growing into the future creative, critical thinking, problem solvers of our world.
I apply an activity, project, problem-based learning approach to my classroom to prepare them for their role in our society.
My Project
Resilient is a word to describe my students, and it is also a word to describe the adaptations of animals from an evolutionary, biological, and reproductive perspective. In fourth grade, students learn about the life cycles and adaptations of various animals with some animals provided already in their adult state. For most, life cycles are an abstract concept that is rarely witnessed, but I hope to change that with the Brinsea Maxi II Incubator Classroom Pack.
I strive to create experiences for my students that are both relevant and meaningful while providing exposure to knowledge, skills, and resources otherwise unavailable to them.
With this project, I will let my students experience the life cycle of a chicken in our classroom! My students will assume an active role in their learning and engage in the scientific process while recording observations, tracking data, and taking care of the eggs. The end result will be a class full of very proud, well experienced, and knowledgeable students who have successfully raised 7 eggs from an embryonic state into chicks.
