My students need to see the life cycle in action! What better way than to have our own incubators in our class and see this miracle of life up close!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic group of learners who are thirsty for knowledge. A large percentage of our students are learning English as their second language so they need great modeling of reading behaviors and expert reading strategies that will make them successful.
Our little school is located very close to the U.S.-Mexican border.
Over 80% of our population receives free or reduced lunch which places extra challenges that require additional support for them to succeed. My students are little "sponges" who soak up every experience that we can provide for them.
My Project
It's great for students to read about the life cycle in books and see videos, but what would it be like for them to experience this process right before their eyes? Imagine seeing a chick peck its way out of an egg and enter the world in our second-grade class! This process will be an unforgettable learning experience for my students as we learn about the life cycle of plants and animals. Students will see the changes that occur as the chick develops using the egg tester. The incubator will emulate a hen by warming, humidifying, and turning the eggs. After the chick hatches, we will have an amazing starter kit to watch as the chicks dry and make their first little "cheeps!" Let's get this project cracking!
