Mrs. Flaming from Ramona OK is requesting Classroom Basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students these science materials for exciting units on thermal energy, weather and climate. We will investigate molecules, energy, clouds and hail along with temperature and the water cycle.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. My students represent a small, rural school with a student population of about 850. We have a high number of American Indian students and 70% of all students receive free or reduced lunches.
My students are creative, passionate and full of questions; they absolutely love hands-on, engaging science projects that allow them to think outside the box.
They come to school each day ready to try new things and take chances. Truly, they are my inspiration!
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and investigations to ensure that each student is practicing science and modeling real world scenarios. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners.
In my class, these students will be investigating science by actually doing it. I am excited to dive into this new way of teaching that kicks aside the old textbook learning and invites students to design science investigations to answer their own driving questions.
These supplies will turn my students into junior scientists who ask questions and solve problems hands on about thermal energy, weather and climate.
They will investigate energy, temperature changes, molecules, water vapor, and the water cycle, to only name part of it. There are so many topics that will be learned using these materials.
This type of hands on learning and questioning facilitates all students, regardless of disadvantages, to participate and make decisions about the path that the learning will take. A guiding phenomenon is presented and all students have a path to be a part of the observing, questioning, modeling and investigating a real-world scenario in the classroom. The students learn that their observations and ideas are valuable to the learning process.
