Where's My Story? Representing Students' Stories Through Books
My students need books that increase the diversity in and continue building our classroom library. These books, and the characters and stories within their pages, will connect students, their identities, and help develop their own stories.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom start each day with a curiosity to learn and an excitement to push each other to grow in their understanding of the world around them. These second grade leaders are on a mission to flourish and make their elementary years strong; they know their climb to college has already begun. Students in our school are part of a diverse community of learners who seek understanding, love, and accountability from one another as classmates.
The energy and hum of learning from my classroom is electrifying.
My students push me as an educator to find innovative new ways for them to connect to our world, all in an effort to keep up with their curiosity, energy, and thirst for creating new discoveries. Technology is crucial to my success in preparing these future leaders for our increasingly digital world.
My Project
As an educator, I work to connect to my students' lives outside of the classroom each and everyday. To do this, I need culturally relevant texts to enhance my classroom library. These books will help illuminate the stories of my students through the words, characters, and events the authors have crafted amongst their vivid, colorful pages.
Books unlock connections to the reader's own life, but only if that reader sees themselves in the text.
By expanding my library of characters from many backgrounds, speaking many languages, celebrating different families and religions, my students can engage in conversations with each other that build empathy.
