Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are talented and creative! They also have very difficult lives. Unfortunately, they are in a school where over 80% of our school population lives at or below the poverty level. Getting their daily needs met can be a challenge.
It is a difficult task to teach students to love school because living in the city is quite a challenging experience.
Working in the inner city, I get to see a variety of challenges. I see students who do not have many basic needs being met at home. Missing a meal or wearing dirty clothes is a common occurrence. Even with this type of hardship, they come to school with a smile on their face!
My Project
I am moving to a new classroom. Well it's not "new" Per se, but it is new to me! My second graders will need a magnetic white board so that we can display our work, teach and projectfrom, and use on a daily basis to get through all of our school lessons of the day. This new room doesn't have one! I don't know what the teacher before me did, but I am sure he or she struggled.
How can I teach without a board to write on?
This board is as important as a pencil and paper. It will be used daily and impact so many students. It is a necessity.
