This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at an inner city school with students who are struggling daily with having the basic needs met daily. I have students who are absent from school because they have drank and bathed in toxic lead water. Many of my students learn online and sit at computers for several hours. The school offers free lunch, breakfast, and snacks to all students enrolled. The school also offers a free public bus pass so that students can travel to and from work.
My students have taken ownership of their environment, they decorate for EVERY holiday, they connect and help the new students and they are proud of their success.
I love my career, I love my students and I love my work family. I have had the privilege to work with some of the most amazing students who have experienced life and struggled to get out of their situation. I am fortunate to spend time with them daily.
My Project
The students have collected about 2600 book donations and have built shelves for the books. Now they need to make the library more efficient.
The students have separated the books into 7 categories and are now excited to label and make a mobile library during exam weeks.
The cart will help by providing the teachers and students more access to the library. We have book bins to be filled and then the students will be allowed to create themed bins of books and deliver them to the teachers.
When the books are returned the students will need to re-shelve the books, which is why the labeling is so important.
