Mrs. Coleman from Silver Spring MD is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need resources on world geography like a world map puzzle, continent activity chest set, nonfiction texts on each continent and large maps of each continent to learn about the world around them.

My school is located in an urban area outside of D.C. Our school serves students in grades pre kindergarten to the second grade. The students in our school community come from a variety of different countries and represent many different cultures. They face a variety of different obstacles both in the classroom and at home. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunch and are English Language Learners. My first graders need a comfortable, student centered classroom in which to learn.
First graders are inquisitive about the world around them. They love learning about different people and cultures. These interactive products will help my students to use their curious nature to learn about the world. Not only will they learn the location of the continents but they will learn about the people and nations that live there thereby, enriching their content knowledge in addition to geography skills. Students will use the continent kit to explore different vocabulary words and artifacts displaying what can be found on each continent. These artifacts will bring the continent to life by showing animals, landmarks and other important details making the words that they are reading even more meaningful. They will also use this kit to explore and write using vocabulary cards about each place. Students will be able to dig in deeper by using the book on each continent which are written in kid friendly language so that they are able to read more about each place and learn about the culture, climate, and physical features of the continent. Lastly students will use the maps to identify the location of each continent and relate it to where they live. These products will also celebrate the various cultures from the students within my classroom and teach them about those who are different from them. These products will make the content meaningful for my students enhancing their learning and experience and making their new found knowledge stick!
