This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"In order to know where you are going, you have to know where you have been." I feel that this quote accurately describes my students' knowledge of the world around them. My students currently struggle with geography and understanding their place in the world.
My wonderful students attend a public neighborhood school.
My students include two fifth grade classes! Our classroom is for language arts and social studies. As global learners, my students are so excited to discover new places and experience the fictional world that lives within books! While they want to learn, sometimes we are limited by the funds we have. My students are very eager to try and do different things. We are currently in need of donations and supplies in order to deepen this excitement and facilitate life long learning!
My Project
My students have not had proper education on geography and social studies. Recently, when asking questions about our unit on the United States, I learned that my students were not able to locate our city or state, on a blank map. They also were not able to locate half of our states within the U.S., even with a word bank. I have realized that social studies is a subject that has been neglected in the past for my students. I feel that it is important for students to know where they are in the world, in order to facilitate their desire to explore more. This project includes items like a U.S. States & Regions Resource Box , Discover the World Activity Folders, and a United States Grab & Play Game. The requested items will help my students to learn about the United States in an inviting way!
Finally, I have requested a set of eight headphones. My students will be able to use the headphones for their online iPad program as well. They have been learning via technology, but have not had headphones to allow for individual learning and listening. All of these materials will greatly improve our classroom environment.
These resources will influence positive learning in a subject that is normally neglected.
