Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 5th and 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Dore School in Chicago. My students are having trouble visualizing where in the world we are studying!! Unfortunately, the teachers change classes throughout the day instead of the students, so I must teach in other people's classrooms. These rooms are not always Social Studies ready. Some classrooms I teach in lack maps, a globe or any sort of visual of the world. It can be rather challenging to teach history, especially world history, with only a U.S. map. One room has an older map that is not updated to reflect the changes in our world over the past 20 years. I am in need of just 30 atlases. I teach about 90 children, but we can share the atlases to save money. I want my students to know where they live and where they can go. I want them to see that there is a whole big world out there, waiting for them to explore.
