Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing. My school district is urban and very high poverty, and most of my students come from broken homes, shelters, and foster care. The students in my school are 100% free breakfast and lunch. Most of them have experienced trauma at least once in their young lives. Despite their setbacks, my students come to school each and every day ready to learn with a smile. They come to school and give everything they have to their lessons no matter what is going on at home. They work very hard, and they truly deserve the best.
My students are currently in a setting to address their social and emotional needs.
We have a great community within our classroom. Our school is in a large city where families are in need of extra opportunities!
My Project
As we head towards the final downhill plunge of the year, we are running out of the basic school supplies. Unfortunately our supply closet in our school is running out of supplies that we use every day.
My students really need basic supplies that are no longer available to the teachers in our school.
These supplies will help the students during their reading and math groups to organize their thoughts with the notebooks. Notebooks help to keep everything organized as opposed to seveal pieces of paper.
We are excited to get more folders to help organize the upcoming science and social study units for the remainder of the school year. We can also use some new crayons, colored pencils, and glue to help with art projects and reports that my students will be completing this Spring.
My students use their laptops each day to reinforce reading and math skills on a specific program called IReady. Students benefit from having headphones during this program to help them hear the prompts and stay focused on their own laptop lesson.
