Mrs. Opersteny from Houston TX is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students wobble stools, floor cushions, and other flexible seating options, so that they can have the freedom to choose a seat that works best for them in our classroom.

Despite the many challenges that my students face, they come to school ready, eager and willing to participate every day. They want to give me 100%. Even with supplies and technology lacking, my students are always ready and excited to learn.
My students need opportunities to self-select and discover how they learn best using balls, wobble seats, bean bag chairs and floor seats.
Some students like to sit up at a desk, some like to stand, and some just need the freedom to move while working. By providing students with flexible seating options, students are able to move away when distracted or find a spot where they can focus better. Currently, their only choices when moving away, is to move to another table or chair. Providing students with more seating options will support them as independent learners and managers of their own behavior.
I teach 3rd grade at an amazing public school in Texas, and over 85% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students require additional support to be successful both socially and academically. My students were also negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and many students lost school supplies or even their homes during the storm. They have been through so much upheaval in the past year, and I would love to provide them with the opportunity to become self-managers and independent learners.
Being an independent learner means you must learn about yourself and discover how you learn best.
Once you understand how your brain works best, it becomes so much easier to self-manage and make choices that will help you be successful in the classroom. Many students struggle to focus with traditional seating because they are kinesthetic learners, easily distracted, or just plain uncomfortable. One of the first things we learn about in school is that everyone has a different way of learning, and providing flexible seating options like wobble stools and floor cushions will give my students the ability to choose a learning space that works best for them. I always encourage students to move when they are distracted or uncomfortable, but right now the only option in our classroom is to move to a different desk and chair. These new searing options will provide so many more choices!
