This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Ms. Harwood's art classes and Mrs. Coley's science classes plan to use our supplies to create an original eclipse mobile that will represent the total eclipse that they will see with their own eyes on 08 April 2024. Our students will utilize polymer clay, twine, wooden sticks, beads, paint, monofilament, cookie cutters, a clay roller, and sealant to create models that illustrate the different phases of the eclipse.

The goals for this project surround the marriage of the tactile experiences of visual art with the inherently conceptual and abstract learning aspects of astronomical science.

Our secondary goals include exposing our students to the complexities of the relationships between heavenly bodies in an accessible, easy-to-understand model. We are also aiming to capitalize on the visual learning aspect of our project to provide a more equitable learning experience to our students who all have their own unique modes of retention.

Our students are special for being eager learners, coming from diverse backgrounds, are open to building bridges, and are excited to collaborate with others.
