My students come to class daily ready to work and play. We are located in a rural section of the most beautiful place in the world (North Carolina). Parents work hard to try to give their students everything they can. Coming from low-income neighborhoods, oftentimes it is hard to help purchase supplies. Despite the struggles that my students face daily, they push through to climb the mountain of success.
It is my goal that every child enjoys learning and grows to be a very successful citizen.
The best way for this to be done is including the family in education. It takes a village to raise a child.
How do we teach children to love to read? We give them access to books about things they love. My boys have recently become interested in Gail Gibbons' books. They love non-fiction, and her illustrations bring the information to life. I used The Pumpkin Book as a read aloud, and ever since then the boys have been begging me to find more of her books.
Everyone is a reader; some just haven't found their book yet.
These books are non-fiction and all written by Gail Gibbons. This will allow our classroom to have a wide range of her books and enough for everyone to share.
