My students need an extensive list of fiction books, to read for enjoyment and during story time and after school.

Do you remember receiving a library card as a child and feeling excitement knowing that you could borrow books from the library? Our students will experience this for the first time next month, with the school's library grand opening! But we desperately need fiction books to fill our shelves.
We have 400 students in grades Pre-K through grade 5.
Our students, primarily African American, attend classes at an urban charter school in Illinois. Significant numbers of our students make more than one year of progress by a single year in our classrooms. In 2009, nearly 40 percent of students made more than one year of progress in reading. Receiving fiction books will help us to continue to reach these awesome achievements!
We need an extensive list of fiction books, to read for enjoyment and during story time and after school. The school library is a wonderful resource that is open to allL students at the school, as well as parents, teachers, and staff. No other resource in a school is so important or well-used. Our students rely on a limited collection of titles in the classroom, many of which are worn books with ratty covers and ripped pages. We are fortunate that our school library has an adequate collection of nonfiction titles, but we are in danger of losing student interest without a good selection of fiction titles as well. Adding fiction books to the school library will attract students to the library and will encourage them to read for fun. Numerous studies have shown that students who enjoy reading show the most improvement in regards to academic achievement. Your donation will help our students to continue their pursuit of lifelong learning!
Please help us to receive these books in time for the library's grand opening!
Imagine the student's delight when they walk into the library and realize that they have a place to call their own. Many of our students have never had the opportunity to visit a fully-equipped school library. Will you help us broaden access to library books by donating to our school library? Thank you in advance!!
