Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Can you imagine a unit on the farm but never seeing the animals? The kindergarteners are going to study the farm. I have some books and posters on farm animals but nothing to allow the students to touch and manipulate the actual animals. I have 20 energetic kindergarten students at a title 1 school in Maryland. Most of my students are newly immigrated from Africa and Latin America.

Many of my students have never heard the word pig, horse, or cow, let alone seen the animals. Our unit on the farm will introduce the students to life and the animals on a farm.

I would love for my students to actually observe farm animals in a hands on manner. With the farm project kit, they will be able to decorate pigs, sheep, chickens and other farm animals. They can make these animals with playdough to represent a three D figure to form a pig or cow. Plus, the confetti glue will allow students to add eyes, ears, and other features to the playdough. The velcro and magnetic tape will be used to display the students' projects. Three of our class walls are magnetic.

Your donation will bring a hands on aspect to our farm unit. The students will share a love for farm animals by engaging in this project about the farm. Since this will be one of their first experiences with farm animals, they will delight in their projects!
