My students need practice with calendar concepts, the alphabet and counting.

I teach at a Title 1 school in Washington, DC where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Every Thursday my school provides a food pantry for the families of our students. Despite their young age, some carry heavy loads. My students arrive at school ready to learn despite the many challenges they face in and out of the classroom.
My students are just learning how to write the letters in the alphabet.
Many of them are still working on mastering their writing skills (3 point grip). The learning tools listed in my project will help my students develop identifying letters, writing letters and building fine motor skills while in our creative curriculum learning centers. We discuss the calendar and the weather daily, my students need practice with calendar concepts, the alphabet, counting and building their literacy skills. Our creative curriculum lessons are design to encourage my students to think about different careers. However they only think about careers in positions held by community workers they come in contact with on a daily bases. Having an architecture set would help exposure them to different careers as well as help develops skills in early STEM concepts.
My students need activities that focus on the alphabet, letter recognition, and writing. My students will use these materials to explore their ability through building, counting, making letters and then words. These activities will be used during Learning Center times throughout the day as we read and write while learning together. They will be able to use these learning tools during our whole group and small group time.
Your generous donation to our project will improve our Pre-K classroom by building strong readers and writers.
The circle time learning center will be used during morning meetings while discussing the calendar, the weather and encourages hands on opportunities for my students. Our next learning theme is building. The I can build it Architecture Sets will be used in our blocks center and will help develops skills in early STEM concepts and spatial reasoning. We will use the Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles will be used in our sand and water center to help my student learn the alphabet. This will help to build the strong academic foundation my students need on their journey to college or to becoming productive members of their communities. They will love learning and feel successful at an early age --- having fun while learning!
