Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument? Ever felt like being a part of the band? Well, the students at my school have the will, talent, and desire, but not the instruments.
Grade general music, concert band, and choir at an inner-city charter school in Northern California.
Our school is in a high-needs community where 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. We have many migrant and military families. We are quite diverse. Although we may not have the same resources as other school's music departments, our students tenaciously strive toward their goal of absolute excellence. 89% of our students are meeting or exceeding state standards in math and reading.
My Project
These instruments will provide our school with a brand new music program where instruments are provided for our students. Making them musicians one instrument at a time. Since many of our students' families are struggling to pay rent, we wanted to make our music program stress-free! We will need a complete set of musical instruments, as we currently have none. We'll need violins, clarinets, tubas, flutes, guitars, cymbals, and saxophones. Providing instruments for our students will create more opportunities to be more involved and successful in orchestra band, jazz band, and school in general, while keeping them off the streets and out of gangs.
Every instrument donated to our program gives our students the opportunity to make the arts real in their lives.
