My students are hard working 6th graders in a south shore suburban town. We have one school for the town and the background of students varies. As is true in most schools, there are those who sometimes need motivation and inspiration to make the most of their education. Engaging methods and activities can help them to become more mindful of their own learning.
Celebrating and teaching about differences has become a focus in our school, allowing for students to be more understanding and to tap into their social-emotional learning.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
My Project
Throughout the year, our students are always promoting activities, events, and good behavior in our school. Our student council runs different fundraising activities and spirit weeks as well. Signs are often made to hang around the school and reminders are posted in easily visible areas.
A Cricut would make this job so much easier, and the finished product would be much more beautiful and impactful.
Students themselves can work on beautifying the school by adding decor to the walls that promotes positive thinking and good behavior. By using vinyl and posting it on the wall, tape won't be needed and signs won't get ruined. This vinyl will become part of the wall and the students will take greater pride in their school and the messages that are being promoted.
